About Us

August 1985

Glade Spring Volunteer Life Saving Crew was formed due to a need for ambulance response in the central and eastern parts of Washington County. Paid ambulance services were available, but the majority of residents refused to call for them, usually due to an inability to pay. At that time, Washington County Life Saving Crew, located in Abingdon, was operating as a First Responder agency only, and were not able to transport. Some of their members decided to come together and found the Glade Spring Volunteer Life Saving Crew, and on August 22, 1985, operating with one ambulance, GSVLSC began providing emergency care and transportation to the sick and injured.

August 2008

Today glade Spring Life Saving Crew operates with three (soon to be four) Advanced Life Support ambulances, a light-duty rescue truck, a first response vehicle, a support vehicle, and a 4x4 Kubota ATV. Our membership is approximately 30 active Senior Members, an active Junior Crew, Associate Members, and an Auxiliary.

We serve an ever-growing population of approximately 25,000 in a geographic area of approximately 105 square miles.

Shaded response area is an approximation.
